![]() Yorkshire stone to clad the extension arrived this morning and the first courses will be laid this afternoon. Aptly enough, the hand-tooled blocks were hewn in a quarry near Holmfirth. They may stand in contrast to the church's predominantly dark exterior, but the choice was deliberate. The church is built from sandstone which became blackened over the years by domestic and industrial soot. Inspection of some parts of the exterior walls – and any part of the exposed interior walls – reveals the golden stones that preceded the sooty deposits. As the large hole below indicates, work has also stated on breaking through the back wall to create an entrance to the extension. It is now anticipated that the first phase of the project will be finished by mid-December. As ever, donations towards the second phase of our appeal, the provision of a kitchen, are particularly welcomed. Details of how to contribute are contained on our contact page.
