26/4/2022

Sunset over Castle Hill.
For the first time in many years, Evensong will be sung at St Lucius' on Sunday, May 1 at 6.30pm.

Music, readings and prayers are interwoven In this ancient service, as a reflection on the day past and in preparation for the night.

This is one of its evocative prayers: 'Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.'

The music will be led by a choir of Huddersfield University students, directed by Daniel Bezkorowajnyj, a member of our congregation and, when at home in Wales, a lay clerk at Bangor Cathedral.

The choir will sing the responses, a setting by Sir Charles Stanford of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and the motet, Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart.

Three hymns and a psalm, below, will be sung by everyone. And refreshments will be served at the end of the service. Please join us.
