A team of volunteer painters is combating the rust and restoring the shine to our church railings and gates.
Good progress was made in two sessions last week, but many metal bars remain to be glossed and willing hands are still needed to wield the bushes.
Organiser Chris Thompson says: 'We had a successful morning on Saturday with a good turnout and just under half the railings painted, following just Helen, me and Sue on Thursday.
'Having canvassed the volunteers, I suggest we designate Saturday mornings for painting. The next session will be on June 26, and each Saturday afterwards until the work is finished.
'Start at 10 am. Brushes, paint and turps will be provided but please bring your own gloves and wear old clothing.'
Many thanks to those who have helped so far – and we look forward to meeting future volunteers.
UPDATE: Having finished painting the church railings in tropical heat on July 17, the team enjoyed a celebratory beer at the Golden Cock.
Thanks to all helped and particularly to Chris who provided all the weft. However, the gates at the east end of church remain to be painted, so please watch this space!
